I was managing the process of deployment, liaising with 2nd line support, deployment verification testers, making go/no-go decisions etc. for big projects, so I'm not actually familiar with the command-line part of deploying Rails software upgrades. The principles of managing the whole thing will be the same, though, and will be useful as we grow. But I've heard capistrano is reasonable for that, or elz or enigel can let you know what they now use.
