FIXED! The problem was that I needed to not only install XCode, but also go into XCode itself, go to Preferences -> Downloads, and install the command line bundle from there. Previous versions didn't require this step, so I still had some *really* old compilers and stuff hanging around from years ago, and that's what was causing the problem.
